On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address, widely regarded as the most eloquent and memorable speech in American history. 150 years later a Pennsylvania high school student will have the opportunity to win a $5,000 scholarship and stand in Lincoln’s Footsteps to deliver his or her own speech.
The In Lincoln’s Footsteps contest is open to any high school student who will be in 10th-12th grade during the 2013-14 academic school year and is enrolled in a public, parochial, private, charter or home school within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The winner of the contest will deliver their speech on a national stage as part of the official ceremony commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address on Dedication Day, November 19, 2013 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
The winner of the contest will receive a $5,000 scholarship, professional speech presentation training, and an all-expenses paid trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for Dedication Day 2013. The winner’s school and/or educators will receive a collection of Gettysburg/Lincoln-related books and a banner recognizing the education entity and its winner.
