The In Lincoln’s Footsteps contest commemorates the 150th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
The contest has been designed to honor the historic significance of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and reinforce its relevance to the present. The contest seeks to perpetuate the values the address represents and to cultivate added appreciation for quality written and oral communication in today’s society among high school students.
Working in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the contest meets academic standards of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The lead sponsor of In Lincoln’s Footsteps is Martel and Associates, an international leadership communications consulting firm. Martel and Associates sponsored a similar contest in 1988, which was honored for its work with the Freedom’s Foundation first prize award for conceiving of and executing the program.
In Lincoln’s Footsteps is supported by Pennsylvania’s Governor and First Lady, Tom and Susan Corbett, who serve as the contest’s honorary co-chairs. The Gettysburg Foundation is a sponsor of the project. The Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, which organizes the annual Dedication Day commemorative ceremonies, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education also support the contest.
